With over 900 species worldwide, bats are the only mammal that can do more than glide from the top of their tree to its roots. Having achieved sustainable flight, bats live on nearly every continent and make up about 20% of all mammal species. Most bats eat insects, fruit and pollen. Only 3 species drink blood and they’re little guys. The bigger bats usually mistaken as Vampire bats are actually the large fruit bats. As urban areas creep further and further into wildland, our homes which include outlying structures such as barns and sheds cabins, workshops and businesses become their trees and caves. Sometimes a bat may hole up under your deck, in your house, or cabin as a quick stopover during a dramatic change in temperature such as a storm. But if you’ve been noticing the same bat in the same place then its likely to have discovered its new home. The sheer quantity of mosquitos and other insects a single small brown bat can eat in an evening is impressive which makes them a highly valued member of our environment. But bats in human dwellings will inevitably cause problems. Screeching, mounting piles of droppings that can harbor dangerous fungus spores, and the chance that the bat may find its way from the garage, attic, or outlying structures and into the main part of a home or business could mean unwanted interaction between pets, children, or an adult who unexpectedly finds a bat swooping overhead and embarrassingly, but admittedly starts swinging their arms, flailing around like someone drowning. Whether it’s a bee, mosquito or a bat, we’ve all been there, but bees and mosquitos don’t carry rabies and if a bat is disoriented or acting in other strange ways it just might be sick and it’s best not to get bit. Unlike trapping and release of other creatures, taking care of bat problems is a special process of removal and exclusion, especially as most bats are protected species. Removing bats in a way that does not leave behind adults or nursing babies is just the beginning. Bats have been known to find their way back to a roost over great distances, so knowledge of how and where to relocate them is vital. After that, careful clean up is important to prevent further contamination. And finally, implementation of appropriate block out methods to assure another infestation will not occur.
With training and experience nationwide, we can remove and relocate a single bat or a colony assuring your home or business is clean, safe, and properly sealed. Click here for help in fixing your Bat Control problem in a timely, humane and professional manner.
