Ridding your house of rats and mice

Call now for Professional Mouse or Rat Removal and Mouse Trapping Services.

Attracted by the abundance of easy food in a household environment, rats, and especially mice, can squeeze through the smallest of cracks or holes to access the smorgasbord that is your home. This will often happen as winter months set in and outdoor food becomes more scarce. Mice and rats can live off of very little food, so even the cleanest of homes can still be more than hospitable for them.

Prolific reproducers, it is important to rid your house of mice and rats at first signs of an infestation. Rats can reproduce 10 times in a year, mice the same. Nocturnal, and fond of living in the spaces behind your walls, you may not hear or see them at first, but there will soon be other signs of their presence: droppings, the smell of urine, bits of trash, chewed on woodwork and food goods.

A mouse or rat will eat pretty much anything a human does and a lot of things we won’t─like pet food or feces. They spread salmonella into packaging and foodstuffs through their urine and droppings. Rats or mice in your home can also be a fire-hazard by nibbling on wiring in your walls, fritzing up lights, washers and dryers, and basically anything electrical.

Ridding  your house of rats and mice through the use of rat bait or rodenticide is not recommended.  Not only is the bait and rodenticide toxic to you, your family, and pets, but it takes three to five days to kill the rat or mouse by causing internal hemorrhaging. In that time the rats or mice will travel as they’re suffering to die and bloat and decay in hard to reach places. No matter what rat bait or rodenticide may promise (that the mice will leave the house in search for water or that they will dry out quickly and hence not rot and stink behind your walls), mice and rats will only suffer and die inside your home and now one problem has just been turned into yet another─and this time it’s going to be one seriously horrific smell as the internal fluids seep from their bloated bodies causing a stench that can linger for weeks or months attracting a host of smaller unwanteds like flies and maggots.

Though prevention is obviously preferred, once you’ve already gotten an infestation, all hope is not lost. Ridding your house of mice or rats is possible.

The professional trappers at Bird and Animal Control have the special equipment and knowledge to solve your pest problem. With live and kill traps, carcass control and removal, we can safely and efficiently help you to reclaim your property as well as help you make adjustments in your home to prevent a new infestation.
