County Information

Much more than just an annoyance, destruction and damage to land and homes in Sonoma County by animals can be costly and serious to maintain. Even more potentially dangerous than home and property damage, many wildlife and animal pests harbor diseases that can be very harmful when transmitted to farm animals, pets and people.

Each animal pest that infests your house, property or place of business in California has special adaptations or aptitude that permit them to flourish in places they create a danger or problem. Pests enter houses looking for a food source and protection, or an environment with the right humidity or temperature. Fundamental in Sonoma County animal and bird control is removing the attraction for pests to your home, whether it is a food source, shelter or a specific habitat.

Did You Know...
Although bears live in mostly forested places, they may wander into towns and cities looking for food. Bears will eat any food at hand and also will try to eat anything that may look like food. When their natural food preferences like berries, insects, meat and nuts are sparse, bears will actively hunt elsewhere in order to eat. When they discover a good food source, they will go back regularly, which is when they become a pest problem.

Contention between people and bears will raise as more people build their cabins, homes and even businesses in areas that were previously less urban. Damage from bear activity can involve damage to personal land, beehives, agricultural crops and livestock.
